Qigong (also spelled Ch'i Kung) is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy (qi). Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil state of mind. In the past, qigong was also called nei gong (inner work) and dao yin (guiding energy).
Qigong therapy works with the body, mind and spirit to move stagnant energy patterns and then balance the body, creating lasting health, vitality and well being. Qigong Therapy is based on balancing the energy flows in the body “meridians” which are invisible channels of energy or qi that flow between the organs and the surface of the body. In a healthy body the energy flows smoothly yet during our lives we often experience trauma, whether physical or emotional which causes the energy in the body to become obstructed. Qigong therapy helps to move blocked energy and return the body to a state of balance. Qigong Therapy is a powerful tool for healing the root of illness where lasting health may occur. It is also a very effective form of preventative medicine.
To receive Qigong Therapy you do not need to undress, you are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. A session begins with about a 20 minute initial intake and assessment. After which a treatment plan is customized to best work with your symptoms. The plan may include Qigong Therapy, massage, acupressure, diet suggestions and Qigong movements. An important part of healing is empowering yourself to partake in your healing journey. Qigong exercises, meditations and dietary suggestions are an opportunity to take your health into your own hands. This is intended to supplement our time together and assist you in your healing. During a session you may feel sensations such as tingling as the energy begins to move through the meridians in your body. Afterwards you may feel relaxed, energized and a deep sense of peace.
Taiji Quan is a style of qigong. It is graceful, relaxed, slow, and fluid, like a slow- motion dance. Unlike some qigong methods that exercise specific systems or parts of the body-- nervous system, endocrine system, heart, kidneys-- Taiji Quan is a whole body, whole mind exercise. It treats health systemically, restoring the body to its original "program", uncorrupted by stress, pollution, and disease. United Martial Arts offers training in all aspects and levels of Taiji Quan.
